We are compelled to write this, despite of People to People’s existential in country challenges and our disgust and frustration with the situation Lebanon as a country is currently in. within our limited resources, we have been following closely the healthcare crisis develop through our local volunteers and monitoring the cries for help we receive. For the past year, our network of 129 recipients have been deprived of our continuing services but today our need to assist is more important than ever before and will create a stronger impact because of this mission’s magnitude. We appreciate the past partnerships we had that couldn’t have been able with your and our partners’ support. AND NOW WE ARE APPEALING TO YOUR CONTINUED HELP!
We are sure that you have been gathering from the news the facts about more than 1.5 million displaced (more than turkey earthquake affectees) and more than 2000 died! And we are equally certain that you have been privy to all kind of reports and requests, but we hope that the following will give you a brief on the latest status of bringing aid into Lebanon. And, More importantly, We wanted to let you know that P2P locally is in close personal contact with all the governmental and non-governmental organizations and local United Nation Humanitarian offices and hence, we can channel aid and assistance in the most effective ways as has been our history since we have arrived to Lebanon. Efforts of Lebanese Diplomatic Missions and International Support Amid Emerging and Ongoing Colossal Humanitarian Crisis
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants has released a statement confirming ongoing diplomatic efforts to address the consequences of the continued aggression on Lebanon, particularly its security and humanitarian implications. The Ministry is closely monitoring these developments and will provide regular updates on the activities of Lebanese diplomatic missions abroad aimed at securing medical and relief aid for the Lebanese people.
Following instructions from His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed, President of the United Arab Emirates, the UAE has committed $100 million in medical and relief aid to Lebanon. The first aid plane from Dubai, carrying medical supplies, arrived at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport last Thursday. Additionally, a three UAE plane, carrying more than 55 tons of relief supplies, have arrived during the week end from Abu Dhabi.
In Brazil, Chargé d’Affaires George Jallad, in collaboration with the Lebanese Consul General in São Paulo, Rudy El-Kazzi, launched the “United for Lebanon (UPL)” initiative. This effort aims to gather financial assistance for purchasing essential medical supplies to address the shortages in Lebanon’s healthcare system due to the ongoing aggression. The Lebanese Embassy has made an urgent appeal to the Lebanese diaspora in Brazil, Brazilian citizens of Lebanese descent, and friends of Lebanon across the country to actively contribute to this initiative through a designated bank account.
To facilitate the shipment of medical aid from the U.S. to Lebanon, the Chargé d’Affaires at the Lebanese Embassy in Washington, Wael Hashem, reached out to the Qatari Embassy in the U.S., which graciously agreed to cover the transportation costs in cooperation with Qatar Airways. The Lebanese Embassy is also in contact with Middle East Airlines in New York to explore the possibility of continuing the shipment from Doha to Beirut free of charge.
The Lebanese Embassy in Paris provided the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Center with a detailed list of the medical supplies requested by the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. In response, France has pledged 12 tons of medical and relief aid. The Lebanese Embassy has also appealed to the Lebanese community and associations in France to contribute further assistance. On the political front, the Chargé d’Affaires, Ziad Taan, met with the Deputy Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the French Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs to urge France to apply pressure on Israel to halt its aggression.
Lebanese Ambassador to Italy, Mira Daher, met with Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), to discuss the severe environmental impact of Israeli attacks on Lebanon’s agricultural land, particularly the use of phosphorus bombs. FAO expressed its commitment to maintaining its essential personnel in Lebanon. Ambassador Daher also met with Cindy McCain, Executive Director of the World Food Programme (WFP), who revealed that the WFP is working to secure $105 million in humanitarian aid for Lebanon. Plans are in place to ensure that assistance reaches the one million displaced Lebanese citizens, even in the event of an Israeli-imposed blockade.
The United Stated Secretary Blinken had pledged nearly $157 million in new U.S. humanitarians’ assistance to support populations affected by conflict in Lebanon and the region addressing the needs of internally displaced persons and refugee populations. Aid began flowing through USAID and some direct intervention through the Embassy in Beirut.
Morocco Emergency Response in cooperation with Mayshad Foundation,
People to People Aid Corp.’s team of local volunteers accompanied by P2P ‘s Founder Wasseem Kabbara had travelled to affected areas in the High Atlas Mountain of Morocco where a 6.8 rector scale earthquake had hit almost a month ago, resulting of more than 2000 death and the displacement of 300,000 men, women, and children; the assessment trip had concluded the following outcome and recommendations:
