Morocco Emergency Response

Morocco Emergency Response in cooperation with Mayshad Foundation,

People to People Aid Corp.’s team of local volunteers accompanied by P2P ‘s Founder Wasseem Kabbara had travelled to affected areas in the High Atlas Mountain of Morocco where a 6.8 rector scale earthquake had hit almost a month ago, resulting of more than 2000 death and the displacement of 300,000 men, women, and children; the assessment trip had concluded the following outcome and recommendations:

  • Supply small groups and civil protections units with additional Emergency Medical Pack units
  • Co fund direct programs in healthcare centers, such as training nurses, training community members to become first responders and also find staff and volunteers to train support to conduct social rehabilitation and  mental health therapy programs for those suffering from loss and PTSD
  • commit to supply the small primary healthcare units with adequate medication as requested by each, based on our stock we can come up with meds for a 3 month period at a time
  • Increase healthcare centers and services: healthcare centers, particularly in areas where the population is densely concentrated and access to healthcare is limited. Some of these  centers have destroyed, they should be rebuild immediately and equipped with basic medical supplies and staffed by trained healthcare professionals.
  • Deploy a solar power for healthcare program through installing units to provide green energy to mobile or fixed healthcare units and community clinics
  • Create awareness programs for women and children as well as provide critically needed maternal and neonatal health services during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care.
  • Initiate and support midwife programs

In a quick response, the team had met and inspected the works of many civil societies and local community action group. As depicted by the picture above, P2P had donated Emergency Medical Packs provided by Direct Relief International to local first responders to help handle emergency situations.

Thereafter, a steering committee was formed to focus on building a model Community Healthcare Center (CHC) that will be staffed with trained personnel and supplied with the necessary primary care and first aid meds that will be integrated into the community to offer primary healthcare services, social rehabilitation programs and health awareness campaigns for men, women, and children.
